BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Feb. 7, 2012 – C. Dennis Hughes, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, has been appointed to the Alabama Insurance Planning Commission (AIPC), which is an advisory board for the Insurance and Financial Services and Risk Management program at The University of Alabama. The group, comprised of industry professionals and professors is responsible for ensuring that the program offers the best educational and advancement opportunities to students.
In addition, the AIPC engages in fundraising activities to support students and program activities such as Alabama Insurance Day, an annual event held at the Capstone where professionals attend informative lectures, earn Continuing Education credit and meet with other professionals to exchange information of interest. ABOUT C. DENNIS HUGHES
Denny Hughes joined Haskell Slaughter in 2003 after his practice at two small firms focused mainly on insurance defense matters. Currently chairing Haskell Slaughter's Tort and Insurance Practice Team, Hughes concentrates on the defense of bad faith, fraud and punitive damage actions and other insurance defense matters at the trial and appellate levels, as well as the defense of class actions and complex litigation. In this role, he represents employers in the defense of employment discrimination claims and advises employers on preventive employment law.
Additionally, Hughes has been appointed as a Deputy Attorney General to represent the State of Alabama in the defense of civil actions against state agencies. He is a member of the Alabama Association of Arson Investigators and also serves as the 2011-2012 President of Camp Smile-a-Mile, which provides year-round programs for children who have or who have had cancer and their families.
