FORMER INDIAN PRESIDENT TO STATE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - October 22, 2009 - The attorneys of Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker are pleased to welcome Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President of the Republic of India from 2002 - 2007, to the state of Alabama. Traveling with the former president are Sanjiv Arora, Consul General of India, Sanjeev Mahoni, Senior Vice President of Mahindra Automotive, and San Asuti, Executive Vice President of Congruent Solutions, Inc. 

After arriving in the U.S. on Tuesday, October 27 for meetings in Montgomery, Dr. Kalam will travel to Birmingham to visit with dignitaries before attending a private reception in his honor hosted by Haskell Slaughter. During his three-day visit in Montgomery, Birmingham and Huntsville, the former Indian president and his guests, along with Haskell Slaughter attorneys, will visit with students, university presidents, business executives, and scientists as well as NASA and Marshall Space Flight Center officials.

Mahindra Automotive is providing a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle for Dr. Kalam's use during his visit to Alabama, which will conclude on Thursday, October 29.  Mahindra vehicles will soon be available in Alabama and throughout the U.S.

ABOUT DR. A. P. J. ABDUL KALAM

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India on July 25, 2002, a position he held through 2007.  Elected during the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party and under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajapayee, Kalam became known as the "People's President."  Dr. Kalam is also one of the most distinguished scientists in India and has received honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions.  He has also been awarded coveted civilian awards - Padma Bhushan (1981), Padma Vibhushan (1990) and Bharat Ratna (1997).
