HASKELL SLAUGHTER'S BAKER AWARDED HONORARY
DOCTORATE BY BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - June 2, 2009 - David R. Baker, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree by Birmingham-Southern College at its 150th Commencement Ceremony on May 17, 2009.  In honoring Mr. Baker, a 1951 Birmingham-Southern graduate, the college noted his longtime support of Birmingham-Southern from his student days through his service as a Trustee since 1985, and particularly recognized his support of the fine and performing arts at the college.

Birmingham-Southern College is a four-year, private liberal arts institution founded in 1856 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church.  It has frequently been honored as one of the outstanding liberal arts colleges in the United States.  For more information, visit http://www.bsc.edu/.  

ABOUT DAVID R. BAKER

David Baker's practice focuses on corporate matters, including securities, mergers and acquisitions and international law. He has practiced law in New York City with the firms now known as Chadbourne & Parke and Jones Day (retiring as the senior corporate lawyer in Jones Day's New York office) and in Birmingham and currently divides his time between Haskell Slaughter's Birmingham and New York offices. He also serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.  Among his many professional affiliations, he is a member of the International Bar Association and serves as its principal representative to the United Nations in New York, as well as serving as a Life Member of the American Law Institute and as general counsel of the Economic Club of New York.
