HASKELL SLAUGHTER'S WATTERS NAMED AS ABA
YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION ASSISTANT DIVERSITY DIRECTOR
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - May 19, 2009 - Latanishia D. Watters, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, has been named as Assistant Diversity Director of the American Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division for 2009 - 2010. The ABA Young Lawyers Division's Diversity Team, led by a director and two assistant directors, promotes full and equal participation in the Young Lawyers Division for a membership inclusive of lawyers of varying racial, gender, ethnic, national and sexual orientation backgrounds, and of lawyers with disabilities.
The ABA Young Lawyers Division's mission is to further the ABA's goals and purposes, and thereby to serve the community and the legal profession; to represent young lawyers in the ABA, and to represent the ABA to young lawyers; to help shape the policies and priorities that affect young lawyers and the legal culture in which they practice; and to create a deliberative forum for the exchange and expression of young lawyers' views, and a voice to advocate those views. Latanishia Watters maintains a diversified commercial litigation practice, focusing on tort and insurance defense and other complex civil litigation. She has represented insureds, insurers and business entities in a wide variety of tort litigation, as well as securities fraud litigation, broker-dealer litigation and arbitration, and bankruptcy proceedings and related creditors' rights claims. Active in bar association and community service affairs, Ms. Watters served in 2008 as President of the Magic City Bar Association and currently serves as Chair of the Birmingham Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee and Alabama/Georgia District Representative to the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association, among her many professional activities. Committee of 25, and the American Cancer Society Board of Ambassadors.
