HASKELL SLAUGHTER'S GRAFFEO NAMED PRESIDENT OF ROTARACT CLUB OF BIRMINGHAM
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - April 7, 2009 - V. J. Graffeo has been named President of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham, a community-based service organization for young professionals sponsored by the Birmingham Rotary Club. As President, Graffeo will guide the Rotaract Board of Directors in pursuing the organization's mission to learn from proven leaders, network with committed young professionals and serve the needs of the community.
Graffeo was a founding member of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham, which has grown to be the largest Rotaract Club in the U.S. since it was started in March 2004. He previously acted as the Programs Director, arranging for leaders such as Frank Stitt and Congressman Artur Davis to speak at bi-monthly luncheons held at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham. Graffeo has also served as the Social Director.
The Rotaract Club's membership includes approximately 125 professionals with an average age of 25-30 years old. The club's signature project is Ready 2 Read, which addresses the community need for improved literacy in Birmingham by placing a full library in every second grade classroom in Birmingham City Schools. Rotaract's largest fundraising effort is the annual Rotaract Gala.
