HASKELL SLAUGHTER ADDS NEW ASSOCIATES TO LITIGATION PRACTICE GROUP
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - November 4, 2008 - Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC announces that four new associates have joined the firm's Litigation Practice Group. Rebecca A. Beers, M. Baird Beers, Jr. and Maridi L. Thompson have joined Haskell Slaughter's Birmingham office, and Michael W. Kelley has joined the firm's Montgomery office.
Rebecca Beers represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters. Before joining Haskell Slaughter, she served as Law Clerk to Senior United States District Judge William M. Acker, Jr., Northern District of Alabama. Ms. Beers is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and Washington & Lee University School of Law. At Birmingham-Southern, she was president of Omicron Delta Kappa and vice president of Mortar Board, as well as being involved in numerous other honor societies and organizations. In law school, Ms. Beers served as Managing Events Editor of the Washington & Lee Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice and served on the Dean Search Interview Committee and as an Honor Advocate before the Student Judicial Council. She was also a member of the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse, a legal clinic providing research, writing and strategic support for criminal defense attorneys in capital murder cases. In addition to her law practice, Ms. Beers serves on the Current Committee of Empower Alabama, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reinventing Alabama politics for a new generation, and is a Junior Patron of the Birmingham Museum of Art and a member of Catalyst Birmingham, Young Professionals of Birmingham and the Magic City Democrats.
Baird Beers represents insurers and their insureds, as well as other clients, in civil litigation, with a particular concentration in defense representation. He is a graduate of Cumberland School of Law, where he was a member of the Cumberland National Trial Team and Associate Director of the Cumberland Trial Advocacy Board. Before law school, Mr. Beers served as captain of the varsity men's tennis team at the University of the South, and was a member of the Order of the Gownsmen, Sewanee's select academic honor society.
Maridi Thompson represents clients in a variety of civil litigation matters. She joined Haskell Slaughter after graduation from the University of Alabama School of Law, where she was a member of the Law and Psychology Review, the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Team, and the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society. A native of Tuscaloosa, Ms. Thompson is active in the University of Alabama Alumni Association and the Junior Patrons of the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Mike Kelley represents clients in civil litigation matters, with a particular focus on insurance defense litigation. He joined Haskell Slaughter's Montgomery office in 2008 after graduating cum laude from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, where he was a member of the Jones Law Review and a charter member of the Jones Board of Advocates. He also served on the AAJ Trial Advocacy Team. Mr. Kelley holds an M.B.A. from Auburn University. Between business school and law school, he served as vice president of an automotive-related business in Montgomery.
