HASKELL SLAUGHTER EXPANDS PUBLIC FINANCE, HEALTHCARE AND LITIGATION PRACTICES WITH ADDITION OF LEE MARTIN AND STACI CORNELIUS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – January 28, 2008 – Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC announces that A. Lee Martin has joined the firm as a member and Staci G. Cornelius has become of counsel to the firm, both effective January 1, 2008. Mr. Martin joins the firm’s Public Finance and Local Government Law and Healthcare Law practice teams, and Ms. Cornelius will practice with the firm’s Insurance Law and Tort Litigation and General Civil Litigation practice teams.

Lee Martin focuses his practice in the areas of public finance, housing and development, healthcare law and tax-exempt organizations law. With over 30 years' experience in public finance, he has served as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, underwriter's counsel and trustee's counsel, and has acted as bond counsel for issues in Alabama, Illinois, Georgia, Colorado, Florida and Tennessee. During that time, he has developed particular experience in financings to construct or repair affordable and low-income housing, healthcare facility financings and refunding issues, including issues involving swap transactions. Mr. Martin has also represented healthcare facilities and tax-exempt organizations in other matters, and has extensive experience with Section 501(c)(3) financings. He served as bond counsel for The Bond Buyer's "Deal of the Year" for the Southeast in 2003. After serving as Law Clerk to Judge Richard T. Rives of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Mr. Martin practiced tax law with a Chicago firm. He then returned to Alabama to join the public finance practice at Haskell Slaughter, and rejoins the firm in 2008 after practicing elsewhere in Birmingham for several years. In addition to his practice, Mr. Martin serves as the general counsel of Civitan International, and is a former Governor of its Alabama Central District.

Staci Cornelius has a broad-based trial and appellate practice, with a particular focus on the representation of defendants and insurance carriers in civil litigation. She honed her trial skills as a Deputy District Attorney for Jefferson County, Alabama from 1993 through 1999, prosecuting over 150 felony jury trials during that time. Since December 1999, Ms. Cornelius has concentrated on the defense of civil actions, and was recognized by The Alabama Jury Verdict Reporter as one of the ten "Most Prolific Trial Attorneys" in Alabama in both 2005 and 2006. Ms. Cornelius has served as an adjunct professor at Cumberland School of Law of Samford University since 2002, teaching "Basic Skills in Trial Advocacy". A frequent speaker on litigation-related topics, she is also actively involved in youth work at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Birmingham.
