SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
At Haskell Slaughter, our summer associate program is an integral part of our commitment to provide the level of high-quality legal services our clients deserve. We recruit second-year students for our Birmingham office from the leading law schools and provide them with a broad exposure to our firm's practice areas, with an emphasis on real-world experience and practical training. At the same time, we offer a range of social events and informal outings designed to let our summer associates get a better idea of the activities available in our area. Throughout their time spent at Haskell Slaughter, summer associates will gain the knowledge and experience to become successful associates.
Work Distribution: Our attorneys develop work projects for the summer associates, and the Recruiting Coordinator manages the process. The students can expect to gain experience in a variety of practice areas across our Litigation and Transactional Practice Groups and to work with several attorneys. Summer associates participate along with our attorneys in client meetings, depositions, hearings, trials and other types of client contact.
On-Campus Interviewing: Haskell Slaughter participates in the OCI process at certain law schools and accepts resumes from dozens of schools across the country.
Training and Feedback: Summer associates meet with the Recruiting Chairman and Recruiting Coordinator at the mid-point in the summer session and again at the end of the program. During these meetings, we discuss project evaluations, provide feedback and answer any questions, keeping in mind that the quality of a clerk's work is of far greater importance than the quantity of work performed.
Mentoring: Each summer associate at Haskell Slaughter is assigned two mentors: a partner in the firm and an associate. The mentors serve as a constant source of information, guidance and support during the students' six-week tenure with our firm. Mentoring is integral to the firm's continuing success.
Outside of the Office: The Summer Program is fun, too! We invite summer associates to a variety of social events throughout their time with us. Beginning with our annual kick-off party, summer associates are given an opportunity to get to know our partners and associates in both large and small gatherings, including informal dinners with practice groups, weekly lunches with partners and impromptu events.
NALP (National Association of Law Placement): Haskell Slaughter is a member of the National Association for Law Placement, and the firm is listed in the NALP Directory of Legal Employers. You may view our directory listing by clicking the link below.

NEW ASSOCIATES AND LATERAL HIRING
While we seek to recruit new associates through our summer program, we also invite inquiries from third-year students and judicial law clerks. In addition, throughout our firm's history, we have grown through bringing on experienced lawyers looking to grow and develop their practices in the unique environment we offer. Many of our lawyers, including our founding members, have practiced at other firms or in corporate or governmental posts. We place significant value on diversity of background and experience, and we pride ourselves on an inclusive culture. If you think Haskell Slaughter might be the right spot to start your practice or lift it to the next level, please contact us.
