Robert E. Lee Garner
Bob Garner practices in banking, corporate governance, securities law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, with an emphasis on the application of these disciplines to the issues facing both privately and publicly held companies. In addition to a varied corporate finance and transactional practice, Mr. Garner has extensive experience in counseling corporate boards and committees on their legal obligations and fiduciary duties.
Mr. Garner has represented a broad range of clients during his long career, including clients in the banking, air transportation, trucking, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing, agri-business, e-commerce and high-tech industries. His experience includes serving as General Counsel and Secretary of a NASDAQ-listed trucking company and practicing with major law firms in Columbia, South Carolina, Atlanta as well as Birmingham.
A Viet Nam-era veteran, Mr. Garner served as an officer in the United States Air Force before beginning his legal practice. He is actively involved in the work of the Committee on Federal Regulation of Securities of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section, where, among other things, he has helped prepare numerous ABA comment letters to the Securities and Exchange Commission. He is admitted to practice in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in both Corporate Law and Securities Law. In 2005, Mr. Garner was recognized in the Birmingham Business Journal's inaugural "Best of the Bar" poll for mergers and acquisitions law, and he was recognized again in the 2007 poll. Mr. Garner is Chair of the Firm's Transactional Practice Group.
