Kirk D. Smith
Kirk Smith has a broad-based litigation practice, primarily representing clients in the defense of civil litigation. He has represented insurers in a wide variety of matters, including disputes regarding insurance coverage issues and preparation of insurance coverage opinions. His practice has included representation of insurance, financial services and other business clients in the defense of tort claims, including products liability, fraud, dram shop and liquor liability, bad faith, employment discrimination, motor carrier liability, and general commercial litigation in state and federal courts.
Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. Mr. Smith practiced with Haskell Slaughter from 1999-2002, and then spent five years at a Birmingham litigation boutique before rejoining the firm in 2007.
Mr. Smith received his B.A., cum laude, in International Studies from Birmingham-Southern College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a recipient of the Blount-Monaghan Honors Scholarship. Mr. Smith received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law. Between college and law school, he attended the University of Cape Town, South Africa, as a recipient of a Rotary Scholarship.
