
Anil A. Mujumdar
Anil Mujumdar's primary litigation focus is on white-collar criminal defense and related matters, including governmental and internal investigations. His experience includes the representation of clients subject to investigation and prosecution in connection with public corruption charges, environmental crimes, banking fraud, healthcare fraud and securities fraud among other areas. He also has experience in complex civil litigation, including class actions, shareholder derivative suits, labor and employment matters, qui tam litigation, and commercial disputes.
Mr. Mujumdar joined Haskell Slaughter in 2008 after practicing for several years with a Birmingham litigation boutique firm. He began his legal career as a public interest lawyer with the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program, a disability rights clinic of the University of Alabama School of Law. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Birmingham-Southern College, where he ran varsity cross-country and served as SGA President; a Master of Arts in American Studies from the University of Alabama, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Mujumdar is active in a variety of civic and community organizations and bar activities. He has served as president of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama since 2006, and as a member of its Board of Directors since 2004. He is also secretary of the Board of Directors of AIDS Alabama, and has been a member of its Board of Directors since 2004. He is a member of the Edward Lee Norton Board of Advisors at Birmingham-Southern College. Mr. Mujumdar is President-Elect of the North American South Asian Bar Association's Foundation, and serves on the Board of Directors of Magic City Bar Association. He is the co-editor of Hoffman on Alabama Civil Procedure (LexisNexis, 3rd ed., 2010) and serves on the Board of Editors of the Alabama Lawyer, the official periodical of the Alabama State Bar. He is a graduate of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum Class of 2010 and member of the Leadership UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) Class of 2011. He was named by Alabama Super Lawyers as a 2012 "Rising Star" for Criminal Defense-White Collar, and received Cox Media Group's Best in Minority Business Award for "Outstanding Male Attorney" in 2012. He is also an RRCA Certified Running Coach.
